Scaling Business for Sustainable Income

40 year old Parveen Bibi is BISP beneficiary, living in revenue village Sarishta Nasheeb, Union Council Jhakhar of District Layyah, Punjab. Her husband Ghulam Abbas earned his living by working as a waiter in marriages. His livelihood was neither sustainable nor sufficient to meet financial needs of the family.

Based on their poverty score the family was found eligible for the productive asset being provided under the National Poverty Graduation Programme. The initiative is co-financed by the International Fund for Agricultural Development and Government of Pakistan and implemented by Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund through its partner organizations. Since her husband had experience of cooking on large scale but could not utilize his potential fully due to lack of resources so during Livelihood Investment Plan (LIP) development Parveen Bibi asked for catering utensils to scale up their cooking business. After market survey conducted by concerned staff and other community members, they were provided with required items. With this value addition their income has been increased significantly, now their monthly income is around PKR. 7000 to PKR.1100. Parveen Bibi and Ghulam Abbas are now in a better position to look after the needs of their children and plan their future.
