The implementation of MHPs in remote districts of Chitral, Dir and Swat will provide access to energy for the poor communities.
This program component includes establishment of a Mini grid system, integrating electricity produced through micro-hydropower plants, serving various settlements and industrial and agricultural load centers at the Union Council level.
During the bilateral government negotiations between the Islamic Republic of Pakistan
and the Federal Republic of Germany; a grant amount of EUR 22.50 million has been
committed for the "Development of Hydropower and Renewable Energy (HRE) project
in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa".
The project comprises of two phases. PhaseI was initiated in 2013 and is planned for completion in 2017. Phase�II spanning over three years and will follow Phase � I.
Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund is the implementing agency. The project activities are being carried out through indigenous and specialized partner organizations including Aga Khan Rural Support Program (AKRSP), National Rural Support Program (NRSP), Sarhad Rural Support Program (SRSP), Community Motivation & Development Organization (CMDO), Mountain & Glacier Protection Organization (MGPO) and Social Action Bureau for Assistance in Welfare & Organizational Networking (SABAWON). Furthermore, PPAF is working in close cooperation with the provincial government of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and local stakeholders.
